Government’s Elimu Scholarship: 14,426 Students Granted Opportunity. Ezekiel Machogu, the Education Cabinet Secretary, has formally revealed the recipients of the Elimu Scholarship Program. Selected from a vast pool of 93,000 applicants. A total of 14,426 students have been granted slots in this highly sought-after government initiative.
Introduced on January 19, the program has already extended support to 52,000 students. Building on its initial impact that aided 37,574 pupils. Notably, 37,574 students from low-income families across the nation have benefited, facilitating their seamless transition from primary to secondary education.
With the addition of 14,426 slots this year, the government’s commitment to a 100% changeover plan gains momentum. Cabinet Secretary Machogu underscored the program’s pivotal role in achieving these educational milestones.
In a noteworthy development, all 2023 students who achieved A or A- grades are now eligible to apply for the Equity Leadership Program. This program promises a substantial monthly stipend of Ksh40,000 for the eligible candidates.
Machogu declared, “All 2023 candidates who received an A or an A(-) and were beneficiaries of the Elimu Scholarship Program will automatically be eligible to join the Equity Leadership Program.”
During a luncheon event, Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang delivered a speech affirming the merits of the chosen recipients and expressing unwavering faith in the selection process.
The Elimu Scholarship Program, a collaborative effort between the government and the Global Partnership for Education under the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) project. Aims to bridge the achievement gap, particularly focusing on students from low-income families.
