January Special Exams: 9,354 Candidates Set for KCPE Exam. KNEC CEO David Njeng’ere has unveiled a significant development. Standard Eight learners who initially registered for the 2023 KCPE exams but missed the first sitting will now have a second chance. This pivotal announcement was made during the release of KCPE 2023 results. A momentous occasion attended by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu at Mitihani House in Nairobi.
Elaborating on this decision, Njeng’ere highlighted that the council will organize special exams in January. Within a 30-day timeframe for the 9,354 candidates who were unable to sit initially.
Delving into the historical trajectory of KCPE since its inception in 1985. Njeng’ere underscored its inclusive ethos, accommodating candidates from diverse backgrounds, including refugees and non-citizens within Kenya. An interesting chapter unfolded from 2005 to 2008. During which KCPE extended to South Sudan nationals from the Kauda mountains region, certifying a notable 103,779 non-citizens.
Extending appreciation, Njeng’ere recognized the pivotal role of field officers, with a special mention for the Vihiga County Education team. This team, led by County Director of Education David Koech. Adhered most diligently to the 2023 KCPE registration guidelines, ensuring a flawless process without any late registration cases.
Shifting focus to gender dynamics, Njeng’ere observed a noteworthy change in 2023. Gender parity, consistently maintained from 2013 to 2022, shifted as female candidates now comprise 48.70%, and male candidates make up 51.3%. In response, he urged other counties to emulate the commendable registration leadership demonstrated by Vihiga.
Gratitude extended further to the 28,533 KCPE centre managers, whose seamless coordination prevailed even in the face of adverse weather conditions. In the marking phase, KNEC engaged a commendable 5,692 examiners, leading to the issuance of certificates of appreciation to recognize their invaluable contributions to marking KCPE Compositions and Insha.
