KNEC Denies Nyambaria High School Topping 2023 KCSE Amid Controversy. The Kenya National Examination Council emphatically refuted speculations on Monday, categorically dismissing any notion that Nyambaria High School had secured the coveted top position in the much-anticipated 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The examination body notably addressed a circulating post that insinuated the esteemed Nyamira County-based institution had attained an outstanding A average.

Contrary to a viral social media post claiming Nyambaria High School achieved an exceptional A+ in all subjects, KNEC sought to set the record straight. The Kenyan populace expressed astonishment at this purported achievement, especially considering the school’s commendable performance in the previous year’s examinations.
Adding to the discourse, Nyamira County Senator Okong’o Omogeni took to publicly congratulating the school on what was perceived as an extraordinary feat.
It is imperative to note that Nyambaria High School had previously gained notoriety for alleged malpractices during examination sessions. Reports emerged of students forcibly expelling examination officials in November, citing dissatisfaction with what they deemed as intrusive searches. Additionally, the school’s principal, Charles Onyari, faced suspension due to alleged irregularities in test administration.
Despite KNEC’s outright dismissal of the contested results, an intriguing aspect emerged as the examination body refrained from disclosing the identity of the top-performing school. Instead, students were encouraged to verify their results at the official KNEC results portal, results.knec.ac.ke.

In the wake of the official announcement of the 2023 KCSE results, scenes of jubilation unfolded nationwide as schools, students, and parents reveled in the academic achievements. Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, in his report on the outcomes, revealed that out of the 903,138 registered students, a staggering 3,685 did not partake in the examinations.
Furthermore, a noteworthy statistic emerged, indicating a remarkable increase in the number of students achieving a straight-A performance compared to the previous year. A total of 1,216 students achieved this pinnacle, surpassing the figures recorded in 2022. Additionally, an impressive 201,133 students attained grades higher than C+ and secured coveted admissions to various institutions.
Delving deeper into the breakdown, 7,254 students received an A- (minus), 18,078 secured a B+, 36,728 achieved Bs, 78,343 attained C+, and a substantial number, precisely 694,400, received grades below C+.
