Sossion Unveils Causes of 50%+ 2023 KCSE C+ Shortfall
Sossion Unveils Causes of 50%+ 2023 KCSE C+ Shortfall. Wilson Sossion, the ex-Secretary General of KNUT, links the recent subpar KCSE results to a deficiency in motivated teachers. Transitioning to his thoughts on Citizen TV, Sossion urges TSC to employ qualified teachers in all schools, emphasizing the need for equal access to quality education without discrimination.
Furthermore, Sossion advocates for investing in teachers for every school. He supports his stance by citing the success of Tenwek High School, where Board of Management (BOM) teachers played a significant role. Sossion calls on the government to not only motivate high-performing teachers but also ensure schools have the necessary resources for effective teaching and learning.
Echoing Sossion’s concerns, Emuhaya MP and KUPPET Secretary General Omboko Milemba sheds light on the challenges faced by teachers, including motivation, employment, promotion, and salary payments. Milemba expresses confidence in the government’s recent initiative to hire 55,000 teachers within a year.
In the context of the recently announced KCSE results, approximately 5% of candidates scored a mean grade of E. However, 201,133 students achieved a mean grade of C+ and above out of a total of 899,453 candidates. Both Sossion and Milemba stress the critical importance of investing in teachers to uplift the overall quality of education in the country.
