The Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC), in response to the initial announcement of 36,053 vacancies in August, has proactively initiated a carefully planned series of promotion interviews. TSC has strategically divided these interviews into three distinct phases, and they will commence immediately following the conclusion of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations on December 4, 2023.

First and foremost (Phase I): From December 4 to 15, 2023, the inaugural phase will localize itself at the sub-county level. This phase meticulously caters to primary school teachers aspiring to elevate their careers from Grades C1 to C5. Within this comprehensive phase, there is a diverse array of promotions, including Headteacher roles in both regular primary schools and Special Needs Primary Schools at T-Scale 1, Deputy Headteacher II in regular primary schools at T-Scale 9, Senior Teacher I in regular primary schools and SNE primary schools at T-Scale 8, and Senior Teacher II in regular and SNE primary schools at T-Scale 7.

Following this (Phase II): Commencing on January 4 and concluding on January 16, 2024, Phase II strategically situates itself at the county level.This phase strategically shifts its focus to post-primary teachers who harbor aspirations of advancing their careers within grades C3 to D1. It presents a diverse spectrum of promotion positions, encompassing titles such as Deputy Principal III in regular secondary schools at T-Scale 11, Senior Master III in regular secondary schools, Senior Lecturer IV in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) at T-Scale 9, and Senior Master IV in regular secondary schools at T-Scale 9, among other promising career opportunities.
Lastly (Phase III): Moving forward to February 4, and running through February 16, 2024, Phase III, at the regional level, will uniquely tailor its focus to address the career aspirations of post-primary administrators who aspire to ascend the professional ladder within grades D2 to D5 levels. It offers prestigious promotion positions, including Chief Principal in regular secondary schools at T-Scale 15, Senior Principal at T-Scale 14, Principal at T-Scale 13, Deputy Principal II at T-Scale 12, and Senior Lecturer I at T-Scale 12.
Considering the significant impact these promotions will have, TSC has displayed its commitment by allocating a substantial budget of Ksh2.2 billion to accelerate the advancement of teachers’ careers by year-end.
